  11. Welcome to the demonstration version of LINEUP, a powerful tool for the
  12. serious card collector or dealer.  LINEUP contains data for all
  13. major card makers: Upper Deck, Topps, Fleer, Donruss, Score, Bowman, Leaf,
  14. OPeeChee Premier, Studio Club, and more.   Football card information also
  15. includes ProSet, Leaf, Philadelphia, Pacific & Proline;  Basketball adds
  16. Hoops & Skybox; Hockey adds OPeeChee and Parkhurst.

  18. This demonstration disk has most of LINEUP''s features intact, and uses
  19. the 1987 Topps baseball set as an example.

  25. Since card values are constantly changing, you can use LINEUP to maintain
  26. current values yourself, or you may order updates from ECSC.  LINEUP is NOT
  27. copy protected so you can freely backup your data. It is, however,
  28. copyrighted, and since we are asking a fair price we do expect people
  29. to respect our rights and the law.

  31. LINEUP is also easy to use so you don't ever NEED to purchase data or updates
  32. from us again.  We merely offer them as a time saver and convenience to our
  33. customers.

  39. LINEUP is a menu driven program that operates with the Function (F) Keys.
  40. The screen can be mapped for use by keyboards with the F keys on top or on
  41. the left.  Several color palettes are available for color users.
  42. These features are controlled from the LINEUP Configuration Menu.
  43. In addition, LINEUP detects whether or not you have a mouse installed and
  44. allows you to use it in addition to the F keys.

  47. From the first set of menus you will pick the sport, make and year of the
  48. set you wish to work with.  Or, you will choose to perform a search across
  49. multiple sets.  LINEUP allows you to work with one particilar set (for
  50. things like printing checklists, a list of what you need to complete a
  51. set, etc.), or allows you to search across many different sets (for things
  52. like finding all cards for a particular player, or print a full inventory).

  57. If you choose to work with a particular set, it will be read into your
  58. computer's memory with a single disk access.  Then you will find yourself
  59. in the ACTIVITY SELECTION menu.  From here, you can enter the CARD EDITOR
  60. (to look at cards and/or modify data one card at a time), REPORTS & LISTS
  61. (to get listings and inventories), CARD SAVER (to separate premium cards
  62. from commons) or QUICK STATS (for a brief summary of what the set is worth
  63. and what you have and other interesting facts).  QUICK CARD ENTRY is a fast
  64. way to enter random cards within a set.

  69. From the first menu you may also access the Multiple Set Features which
  70. provides searches across several sets at once, allowing you to do things
  71. like generate an inventory of your entire collection, or find all cards
  72. of a certain player.  From the QUICK CARD SEARCH mode you can quickly find
  73. a random card and add it into your inventory.

  80. The base price of $39.95 includes one data increment option for free.
  81. Other optional data increments are $9.95 each.

  84.   Football: 1990-present, 1980-89, 70-79, 60-69, 48-59.

  86.     Hockey: 1990-present, 1980-89, 70-79, 51-69.

  96. When we say that LINEUP "comes with" the card data, that is exactly what
  97. we mean.  You receive data files that already have the player names,
  98. card values and rookie flags entered.  The only thing you need to enter
  99. is the quantity that you have, and the special/no-update flags (about to
  100. be explained).

  106. For each card, the following information is kept:
  107.

  109.  - CARD NUMBER
  110.  - PLAYER NAME
  111.  - CARD VALUE for 3 different conditions
  112.  - QUANTITY for 3 conditions
  113.  - ROOKIE FLAG - set for all rookie/first cards
  114.  - SPECIAL FLAG - you set to mark your own special cards (e.g. all Yankees).
  115.  - "NO VALUE UPDATE" FLAG - If you receive a value update from ECSC, this flag
  116.    instructs the update program not to change the value of this card.

  122. Besides each card in the set, there are 14 "pseudo cards":
  123.  
  124.  Card #-1 represents a typical common so you can inventory your commons
  125.           without sorting them all (e.g. you have a box of 500).
  126.  
  127.  Card #0  represents a full set. You then have your option of storing a
  128.           a set as one of everything, or one of card 0.  This feature can
  129.           be used to "make" and "break-up" sets.
  130.  
  131.  12 "Extra" cards at the end of the set to store personal needs like
  132.     unopened wax, cases, etc..

  137. ECSC updates the card values monthly.  Value updates can be purchased
  138. at any time for $5 which includes all years/sets you have purchased.
  139. With the update comes a special program which updates the values only,
  140. leaving all other data intact. A report is generated telling you which
  141. cards have changed.  We currently offer 2 separate updates: baseball and
  142. football/basketball/hockey combination.

  145. For those needing updates on a regular basis, we offer a subscription
  146. service.  Subscriptions are four or more updates that can be sent to you
  147. monthly, bimonthly or quarterly.  The cost is still $5 per update, but
  148. we waive the postage/handling fees.

  153. The demo disk is intentionally sent without any documentation so
  154. that you can see how easy LINEUP is to use.  However, a User''s Guide
  155. is included with LINEUP.  The on-line help screens are active, however,
  156. so be sure to look at them (F12 or <Alt>F10 from most menu screens).

  161. If you find LINEUP to be lacking a feature that you desire, let us
  162. know.  Many features of the current version were implemented as a
  163. result of customer surveys & suggestions.  We hope to continuously
  164. improve LINEUP over time.  In fact, we already have some new features
  165. in works.

  167. This demo was released in the fall of 1991.  We intend to release version 4
  168. about February 1992. This version will have, among other things, team,
  169. buy/sell investment info, variation/error flag, more reports, etc.  The
  170. price will not go up and the upgrade will be free with a value update.

  172. When new versions of LINEUP are released our upgrade policy is as follows:
  173.  - If the price of LINEUP increases, you may upgrade for the difference.
  174.  - If the price remained constant, you may upgrade free with a value update
  175.    purchase.
